The Council on Community Operations (COCO) is an evolution of the Council on Practices and Standards (COPS). The Council is responsible for policies and operating procedures for the practice specialty and common interest group member communities.

We are seeking applicants to serve on the reimagined council, which will be made up of 7-9 people appointed by the vice president, council on community operations and approved by the Board of Directors. Terms for inaugural members will be staggered in 1-, 2-, and 3-year terms, beginning July 1, 2025.

Individuals serving in a 1- or 2- year term will be eligible to serve a second 3-year term.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a member of ASSP in good standing
  • Must have an understanding of ASSP practice specialty and common interest group community  operations and Society structure, strategic direction and operating documents
  • May not concurrently serve on a practice specialty or common interest group advisory committee

Note: The Council's evolution is based on a recommendation brought forward by the 2023-24 Council on Practices and Standards. The council's name and specific operating procedures are pending Board approval in June.

Call for Proposals

Our year-round Leadership Conference program is part of ASSP’s investment in the development of the current and rising volunteer leaders. Attendees enhance their leadership skills to strengthen their communities’ ability to deliver great value to ASSP members. Learn more.

We are soliciting proposals for our Virtual Leadership Conference, taking place online on October 23, 2025. Sessions should support our program objectives for this event:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the organizational structure of the ASSP communities, including roles, responsibilities, and resources to effectively navigate and lead community operations.
  • Learn how to develop year-round plans and set goals for your community, aligning objectives with CAMPT and COMT tools, to add value to member experience through community programs.
  • Enhance communication skills, both within the leadership team and with community members, to facilitate effective collaboration, information sharing, and decision-making processes.
  • Develop skills in volunteer recruitment, training, delegation, and supervision to optimize team performance, foster collaboration, and ensure the successful execution of community initiatives and projects.

Please note: No more than two proposals from one speaker will be considered. Please complete a separate application for each proposal.

Speaker proposals are evaluated objectively with emphasis on the following criteria listed in order of significance:

  • Degree to which the proposed session meets the conference/program objectives
  • Desirability of the topic
  • Speaker's presentation skills and experience

Proposals to present must contain and convey sufficient detail to allow ASSP's Conference Planning Committee to understand how the proposed session will contribute to the conference objectives.  Selection is competitive, so you must submit a compelling and complete proposal.
No more than two proposals from one speaker will be considered. Please complete a separate application for each proposal.  Incomplete  submissions will not be considered.
